Interiorscapes Vol. 0
Interiorscapes Vol. 0 is the inaugural volume of the first magazine of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design at the School of Architecture and Design of the New York Institute of Technology. The magazine publishes the research conducted by first and third year students in the history of interiors path, which I have the pleasure to lead. Above all, Interiorscapes aims to capture research on the history of interiors from all over the world and across all eras, gathering in a single volume a multiplicity of perspectives directed towards the interior worlds of our species. The goal is to develop a collective research path that emphasizes the role of interiors beyond the architecture that contains them. Interior surfaces, the objects and humans they contain, alongside the paths of transformation and characterization that have unfolded over time are contained inside Interiorscapes, an interior space of reflection in its own. Each student chooses a theme, developing it critically in both written and visual form. Each essay is, in fact, preceded by a visual manifesto, an image that clearly summarizes the content of each student’s research. Interiorscapes, starting with Volume 0, will continue to illustrate interior stories chronologically, without distinguishing the contributions of students at various levels as it is a choral project, the result of collaborations within the the Interior Design program at NYIT.
